Seal of Quality Approval for KRYOLAN Products - ECARF

European Center for Allergy Research Foundation: Seal of Quality Approval for KRYOLAN Products

KRYOLAN PROFESSIONAL MAKE-UP is now the first range of color make-up products to receive the Seal of Quality Approval from the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF).

The prevalence of allergies is dramatically increasing in industrialized countries. In Europe, around 30 % of the population already suffers from allergy. Under the motto, “Quality of Life Despite Allergy,” the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundaion (ECARF) has set as its objective the enhancement of public awareness with respect to allergies, the raising of the level of knowledge of allergies, and the intensification of research activities. In addition, the Foundation aims at reducing the suffering of allergy patients from the consequences of their illness.
Professor Dr. Torsten Zuberbier, M.D., Co-Director of the Clinic for Dermatology, Venerology, and Allergology at the Charité University Medical Center in Berlin, is an internationally recognized dermatologist and member of numerous scientific organizations. The focal points of his research include urticaria (hives), neurodermatitis, allergies of the respiratory system, food allergies, and allergic rhinitis. Since 2003 Professor Zuberbier has been the head of the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF).

Seal of Quality Approval for cosmetic products
ECARF awards product and services its Seal of Quality Approval for Allergy-Friendly Products if the related products and services have been evidenced to relieve and/or better the daily lives of allergy patients. Cosmetic products can receive the ECARF Seal of Quality Approval if they – on the basis of latest scientific knowledge, and as a result of laboratory and clinical tests – have proven to be especially well suited for sensitive skin and for patients with neurodermatitis.
In autumn of 2009, an intensive test program was conducted on KRYOLAN cosmetic products on test persons suffering from neurodermatitis and eczema of the face. These tests especially concentrated on testing of the following products, particularly for their skin compatibility and for the patient problem of itching:  HIGH DEFINITION smoothing fluid, HIGH DEFINITION matyfying liquid, HIGH DEFINITION glamouring flow, HIGH DEFINITION on air, HIGH DEFINITION micro foundation cream, and HIGH DEFINITION cache. Additional tests were conducted on the product Aquacolor, a classic preparation from the KRYOLAN company. The skin of the test persons was examined before testing and after the course of a week’s use.
The results:  all products achieved “good” or “very good” test findings. After one week, the condition of the skin was evaluated as unchanged, or with a tendency of improvement. As a result, all KRYOLAN products can be classified as allergy friendly and are eligible in future to carry the ECARF Seal of Quality Approval. As Professor Torsten Zuberbier emphasized, “It is especially important to also test decorative cosmetic products, since they often have long and intensive contact with the skin. And it is particularly in this area that people with sensitive skin frequently experience problems.”
